The local unit of Venice carries out a purely historical-scientific line of research dedicated to the study of habits developed in areas characterized by the presence of natural risks, tending to bring habits back into the framework of knowledge heritage. At the same time, a more historical-philosophical line outlines the construction of the concept of habit, tracing multiform references to it in the ancient Western tradition. The contemporary line of research, on the other hand, focuses on the philosophy of habits starting from classical American pragmatism and the legacy of Wittgensteinian philosophy. The research pays particular attention to the conceptualization of the notion of habit, to the impact of habits on individual and collective sensibility, to linguistic habits, and to the links between the concepts of habit, disposition and affordance.
